If your Year 12 child is retaking an English Language in November, they will have been very close to achieving a grade 4. This means they can already identify language features, but do they know why they are used and the effect they have?

This is not a full course - just a simple way of jumping through the hoops to pass.

(This is my method for reluctant learners that works, no hate from English teachers, please!)

Download a one-sheet crash course below, which deals with the language information needed for Paper 1 Section A. (They also need to know about structure and how to write a story, but more of that for Summer examinations.)

What to do....

Ask your young person to turn this table into a mind map, flashcards, or whatever helps them remember.

You can help by asking questions....

  • Name one language feature that is a sight feature

  • Why does a writer use a sight feature?

I am writing and producing many resources for reluctant learners.

This is just a sample of how one document can be changed to help different visual preferences.

This is chaos, but many people prefer this to a formal table
